Description of Services:
Support programs and services for people living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and their care partners.

 
First Link Learning Series and Social Work Support - One-on-one and group supports for people living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias and their families and care partners
 
Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) - Learning the Ropes - Learning the ROPES for Middle Cognitive Impairment (MCI)Six weekly 2-hour sessions for people experiencing MCI and their care partners focusing on optimizing cognitive health through lifestyle choices, memory training and psychosocial support.  
 
Public Education Programs - By providing information on Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias we can help those not yet on the dementia journey reach an earlier diagnosis and provide strategies for families living with dementia.
 Dementia Friendly Communities - A Dementia Friendly Community is a place where people living with dementia and their care partners are welcomed, included, and supported.?It is a community that pays attention to the social and physical needs of the person living with dementia.? 
This presentation will cover:? 
  • Understanding dementia? and the lived experience  
  • Exploring common signs of dementia  
  • Interacting in a supportive way 
  • Recognizing the importance of the physical environment 
  • Considering how you want to take-action – individually or as a group??. 
 
Heads Up for Healthier Brains - “Heads Up for Healthier Brains” illustrates how certain lifestyle choices can help to reduce modifiable risk factors for dementia. Adopting healthy behaviours, staying socially active, avoiding head injury, and challenging our thinking are some of the ways we can keep our brain healthy as we age. 
Additionally, the presentation provides an overview of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, their impact on the brain and on a person’s behaviour. A Q&A time follows the 
presentation and participants will have the opportunity to learn about programs and services offered by the Alzheimer Society. 
 
Learning about Memory Loss - What is normal memory loss?? What are the symptoms of dementia?? “Learning about Memory Loss” is targeted to people who may be worried about their own or someone else’s memory. The presentation covers topics including normal changes in memory and thinking, understanding risk factors, mild cognitive impairment, and early-stage dementia, recognizing the symptoms, getting a diagnosis, and planning ahead. A Q&A time follows the presentation, and participants will have the opportunity to learn about programs and services offered by the Alzheimer Society.  
 
Social Recreation and In-Home Recreation Volunteers - Social stimulation for both the person living with dementia and the care partner is important throughout the journey of the disease * suitable for individuals with early-to mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias * must be registered as a client and undergo a brief assessment prior to participation
