Audiologists work with clients to help them hear well * this is the only service offered at the centre to both children and adults * in-depth hearing tests are performed * hearing related counseling for clients and their families and consultation with involved caregivers is also provided
Audiology services include:
Hearing testing - Determines if there is hearing loss, the extent and what kind
Middle ear testing - To rule out hearing loss related to reasons like ear infections or excessive wax buildup
Hearing aid prescription/evaluation - To discuss the use of hearing aids, provide information and prescribe a hearing aid
Hearing aid dispensing - provides hearing aids for sale
Hearing aid re-check - checks and maintains hearing aids
Central auditory processing testing - For children between the ages of 6-13 who may be experiencing learning difficulties
Otoacoustic emission testing - To test the reliability and function of the cochlea (organ of hearing)
Infant Hearing Program - The Ontario Infant Hearing Program identifies infants who are born deaf or hard of hearing or who are at risk of hearing loss in early childhood * the program provides parents of deaf or hard of hearing infants with the services needed to develop communication and language skills and to give them the best start in life * program is for children from birth to 6 years (Grade 1 entry) with a permanent hearing loss in Windsor, Essex, and Chatham-Kent
