Stroke care can be delivered in inpatient rehabilitation settings such integrated stroke units as well as specialized, general or mixed rehabilitation unit. A critical component of an inpatient rehabilitation unit is that it is staffed by an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team with expertise/core training in stroke rehabilitation consisting of physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, social workers, clinical dietitians, pharmacists and more. Patients receive therapies at an appropriate intensity and duration, individually designed to meet their needs for optimal recovery and to return living in the community.
