It is now well known about the evidence that highly selected patients with severe ischemic stroke may benefit from stroke endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) between 6-24 hours of clearly defined stroke symptom onset. This ACT-FAST educational resource has been developed to help with implementation of the ACT-FAST screening tool. The slide deck provides a background on EVT for stroke, reviews changes in acute stroke care management, and provides an overview of the ACT-FAST screening tool. The resource also includes case study videos created by the Champlain Regional Stroke Network.

This guide was intended/created for Personal Support Workers (PSW) working in Long Term Care in Ontario. However, anyone interested in stroke care can benefit from using this resource, including PSWs in the community, family members, etc. The goal of the Smart Tips resource is to highlight common changes due to stroke and strategies for managing these changes. Each Smart Tips topic may be used individually or as part of a series. The Smart Tips can be printed freely as a full document or individually according to staff and organizational needs. As an extension of the pdf materials referenced (Popular Resources - SW Stroke Network - www.swostroke.ca), the Smart Tips working group has completed a slide deck of Smart Tips from Stroke Care in English. Each Smart Tips slide deck can be found here. For additional information about any of the topics contained within, please contact your regional Stroke Network, or your healthcare provider.
