Professional Education

The SWO Regional Stroke Network is committed to the provision of professional education for health care professionals and providers caring for individuals with stroke in Southwestern Ontario. Best Practices:

The Canadian Stroke Network has released 2008 Canadian Best Practice Guidelines, an updated version of the original Canadian Best Practice Recommendations for Stroke Care (2006). The Canadian guidelines are a comprehensive set of evidenced-based recommendations and guidelines clinically-based and are an excellent resource for health care professionals working in practice settings across the continuum of care.

The Ontario Stroke System (OSS) Best Practice Guidelines, released in 2003, provide systems-based guidelines with respect to stroke care. You can find these Guidelines at www.heartandstroke.ca/profed under Stroke/Best Practice Guidelines/Ontario Best Practice Guidelines.

Mentoring:

Mentoring provides health care professionals/providers with opportunities to learn in real environments. Health care professionals/providers (mentee) can shadow a clinical expert (mentor) for a period of time. The mentee may have a place for the stroke learning experience in mind, or we can assist with the location and best fit for the learning experience. To ensure the best learning experience, please complete and return our Mentoring Request Tool.
